At the core of the dialogue series, is the recognition of the complementarity between policy and implementation, and thus aims to culminate in a “macro-indicator system” that straddles policy, implementation, planning, and resourcing for education improvement in the next decade.

The dialogue series kicked off on 24 October at the University of Pretoria, with a discussion on ‘Convergences and Differences: Political party positions on basic education’. A second dialogue on Values in Education was convened on 22 November at the Education Labour Relations Council (ELRC).

A further 8 dialogues are scheduled to take place over the course of the year 2024 and will explore various policy topics as follows:

  1. Teacher & Learner Wellbeing
  1. Professionalisation of Teaching
  1. Governance
  1. Foundations for Learning
  1. Capacity of the State
  1. Curriculum, Extra-Curriculum, Pedagogy, Learning Materials & Assessment
  1. Technology, Connectivity, & Digital Learning
  1. Policy & Legislative Regulations

This Policy Dialogue Series represents a pivotal moment in South Africa's education journey. It underscores the significance of collaborative dialogue, bringing together diverse voices and expertise to chart a brighter future for our nation's education system. “It is important that we promote dialogue between our experts and political parties, so as to co-create a common comprehension and proposal for the future of the country”, remarks the CEO of the NECT Dr. Godwin Khosa.
